Léogane ,chatuley en face new mission
 Rue saint-cyr # 57

<description>I was interested to find out that Maximo Nicolas is still involved with the Dominican Aquaculture Association.I made two visits to the Dominican Republic in 1998 and met with Maximo; we visited three aquaculture sites. The second visit included a potential Canadian aquaculture investor but unfortunately the investor decided not to proceed;too many unknowns was probably the reason and investments were made elsewhere in Canada. At the time I was also working in close contact with the Canadian International Development Agency.

It would appear from the information available that problems still exist in trying to get aquaculture moving ahead. However, I believe that opportunities do exist. When I visited, the species considered were Langostino (Macrobrachium rosenbergii),Tilapia (Tilapia spp.)and probably Carp (Cyprinus spp.). Tilapia as we know has become a widely farmed species with excellent demand.

Maximo has been a tireless worker for aquaculture in his country and hopefully his efforts can be rewarded.

Regards.
