Dominican Relief Fund

On October 29, 2007, and the days that followed, Tropical Storm Noel hit the Dominican Republic and caused what is considered to be some of the worst damages in the country's history. In response to the emergency caused by Tropical Storm Noel, PPAF has established the Dominican Relief Fund to channel contributions for assistance in the recovery of the thousands of people who have lost homes, property, crops, and businesses. Our hearts go out to the people of the Dominican Republic for their losses of loved ones and to those who were injured.

Key Facts 1

  • 87 fatalities, 42 people reported missing

  • 62,000 people were left homeless

  • 21 bridges in the country were washed away or collapsed

  • Crop damage totaled $77.7 million (USD)

  • Storm flooding led to an outbreak of leptospirosis in the weeks following the passage of Noel, causing 25 deaths and infecting 193 others

Our Response

PPAF has raised nearly $12,000 and has generated commitments from organizations including Jumpstart International and Samana College Research Center to help identify vulnerable households in seriously affected areas, employ residents in cleaning and clearance projects, and cooperate with community residents for rebuilding of housing and related infrastructure.

Please write a generous check to help bring relief to thousands in need:
